| For Mr. Dinkles, pursuing music has meant starting over, questioning everything and trying to pay the bills while figuring out what comes next. On “Brain,” out today, that uncertainty becomes the starting point for something worth shouting about. The first single from the duo’s forthcoming five-song EP, REZN, “Brain” introduces a collection about frustration, insecurity, identity and the pressure to live according to other people’s expectations. The single release also marks the EP announcement and pre-save launch. Futureless will offer a vinyl edition pairing REZN with the band’s previous EP, RIPT, alongside new merch.Listen to “Brain” Vinyl Pre-order / MerchFeaturing Mac Rettig on vocals and guitar and Rocco Ramos on drums, Mr. Dinkles bring together punk urgency, garage-rock grit and post-grunge weight, with a melodic instinct that cuts through the noise. Their songs make room for both confrontation and vulnerability—a combination that becomes especially personal on “Brain.”Rettig wrote the track after losing a job over what Rettig describes as a false accusation of theft. Already asking for more hours and struggling with the financial realities of building a music career, the sudden loss of income intensified doubts about the decision to move from Seattle to Los Angeles.“I was also getting frustrated at myself as to why the band wasn’t growing as fast as I imagined, despite my hard work, and moving to LA from Seattle,” Rettig explains. “I was wondering if I made a mistake pursuing music. My money source dropped while I was already walking in the dark.”That collision of creative ambition and everyday survival runs through REZN. Across its five songs, Rettig examines unhealthy relationships, experiences of exploitation and the struggle to hold onto a sense of self. The EP also looks at the need for control that can conceal deeper insecurities, while challenging performative attitudes within punk culture itself. It’s a record about finding your place without letting someone else decide who you should be.Mr. Dinkles’ ability to connect pointed commentary with memorable songwriting has already drawn attention. Thoughts Words Action praised the duo’s “sharp commentary and infectious energy,” describing their sound as “catchy, memorable, powerful.”Beneath the distortion, there’s a songwriter’s attention to melody and emotional detail. Their blend of lo-fi texture, Drop-D guitar weight and shifting dynamics gives Rettig and Ramos room to move between a hook and an outburst, bringing the intimacy of the writing into a forceful two-piece format. With “Brain,” Mr. Dinkles introduce REZN at its most exposed: working hard, running short on money and wondering whether the life you’ve chosen will ever make sense. The song gives that uncertainty somewhere to go.“Brain” is now streaming everywhere. Upcoming Show:11/22- West Hollywood, CA TroubadourCONNECT WITH MR.
