| Colorado folk-punk band Doom Scroll released their new album, Exhausted Dialogue, earlier this month through Flail Records, and the reviews make a strong case that it is one of 2026’s records not to be overlooked.Across its 11 tracks, Exhausted Dialogue expands well beyond the usual boundaries of folk-punk. Acoustic guitar, mandolin and washboard percussion collide with punk aggression, catchy melodies and elements of pop-punk, ska, crust-punk, metal and cinematic music. The result is a record that feels bigger and more theatrical than its stripped-down instrumentation might suggest, while remaining rooted in the political frustration, personal struggle and DIY spirit that have defined Doom Scroll from the beginning.Stream Exhausted Dialogue here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/doomscroll/exhausted-dialogue?ref=release Listen and read the track-by-track here: https://www.punknews.org/article/89246/listen-to-doom-scrolls-new-album-and-read-a-track-by-track-breakdownExhausted Dialogue explores internal and external struggles, the exhaustion of fighting the same battles repeatedly and the difficulty of finding any meaningful escape from them.“Exhausted Dialogue is an album about internal and external struggle,” vocalist and guitarist Elliot Lozier explains. “Rarely do we find any kind of reprieve when facing these struggles, and it felt like we were beating a dead horse by singing about these topics again and again.”The album’s title comes from video-game terminology. Players “exhaust” an NPC’s dialogue by speaking with the character repeatedly until there is nothing new left to say—a concept Lozier felt captured the frustration and repetition running throughout the record. The album includes the previously released singles “The Ravine,” “Zugzwang” and “Sisyphus.” While “The Ravine” finds the band pushing through a seemingly cursed stretch of bad luck, “Zugzwang” takes on the dead-end logic of war. “Sisyphus” draws on the Greek myth to examine the numbing cycle of working simply to survive.Doom Scroll recorded Exhausted Dialoguethemselves, with Lozier and guitarist Jon Pizarrotracking the album in their bedrooms. Grammy Award-winning engineer Jason Livermoremixed and mastered the record. His credits include Propagandhi’s Supporting Caste, NOFX’s Wolves in Wolves’ Clothing and The Suicide Machines’ War Profiteering Is Killing Us All. Ian Cook of Larry and His Flask also appears on the track “Horsemen.”The album is Doom Scroll’s first release through Flail Records, following the band’s recent signing to the label’s roster alongside Bridge City Sinners, Days N Daze and Escape From The Zoo.Formed in 2020, Doom Scroll brings together Elliot Lozier (We the Heathens, Pesky Self, Atrocity Solution, Escape From The Zoo), vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Taylor Dittman(Broken Bow, Hermit Stew), bassist Micah Butler(Chatterbox and the Latter Day Satanists, Helga Pataki), guitarist and producer Jon Pizarro of Dead Work, and drummer Marissa Sendejas(Chad Hates George, formerly of Days N Daze).Doom Scroll are currently on the road supporting Exhausted Dialogue. The band’s fall schedule includes dates with Johnny Lawhorn and the Pentagram String Band, a run through Canada and a December show with Apes of the State and Frog Legs.
