Southern California punk band Mad Tab have released the long-awaited new album, alas! the bomb voyage…, via InnaNuttshell Reekordingz (BFD/The Orchard), the label founded by Fishbone bassist and co-founder Norwood Fisher.Mad Tab will celebrate the release with a special performance alongside legendary Orange County punk band D.I. at the Doll Hut in Anaheim, California, on Saturday, September 19.Spanning 17 tracks, alas… the bomb voyage!captures the full range of Mad Tab’s sound: raw SoCal punk urgency, intricate musicianship, dual lead vocals, analog synth textures and four-part harmonies. The album arrives as the band continues its radio push behind “Awake,” one of several previously released tracks that introduced Mad Tab’s technical, aggressive and unpredictable take on Southern California punk.Among the album’s most personal moments is “The Process,” a song Graham “Gram Tab” wrote as an amends to longtime friend and bandmate Dave Tab. Drawing on a friendship that has endured nearly 25 years of highs, lows, conflict and perseverance, the track gives emotional weight to the larger story behind alas… the bomb voyage! and the long road Mad Tab traveled to complete it.“‘The Process’ was one of the only songs I had never heard and didn’t know was being worked on,” says Dave Tab. “The brotherhood Graham and I share has seen everything a friendship can—for better and for worse. Formed in 2006 in South Orange County, Mad Tab built its reputation the hard way—through house parties, bowling alley shows that erupted into riots, abrupt shutdowns, lineup changes and long stretches of silence. Along the way, the group explored reggae, rocksteady and ska before returning to the aggressive punk foundation it never stopped writing toward.Founding members Dave Tab and Graham “Gram Tab,” alongside Scott Beattie and drummer Rob Wheeler, now operate with the kind of chemistry that comes from nearly two decades of shared history. Their music lands somewhere between Bad Brains, Minor Threat and Turnstile, with flashes of Rancid and The Hives, while remaining difficult to place neatly into any one category.Keys and analog synth are woven directly into the band’s sound—not as embellishment, but as propulsion—adding grit, depth and texture rarely heard in punk.
