Stream “Animals” HERE.Southern California punk band Mad Tab has released its new single, “Animals,” and announced that its forthcoming full-length album, Alas! The Bomb Voyage…, will arrive September 18 via InnaNuttshell Reekordingz, the label founded by former Fishbone bassist and co-founder Norwood Fisher.Raw, technical, and relentlessly charged, “Animals” captures Mad Tab’s volatile combination of SoCal punk urgency, intricate musicianship, dual lead vocals, analog synth textures, and four-part harmonies. The track offers another look at a band that has spent nearly two decades developing a sound that is aggressive, unpredictable, and difficult to neatly categorize.Formed in 2006 in the South Orange County underground, Mad Tab built its reputation through house parties, bowling alley shows that erupted into riots, abrupt shutdowns, lineup changes, and extended periods of silence. Along the way, the band explored reggae, rocksteady, and ska before returning to the punk foundation it had never stopped writing toward.Today, founding members Dave Tab and Graham “Gram Tab,” alongside Scott Beattieand drummer Rob Wheeler, operate with the kind of chemistry that can only come from nearly two decades of shared history. Their sound lands somewhere between Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and Turnstile, with flashes of Rancid and The Hives, while retaining a character entirely its own.Keys and analog synth are woven directly into the group’s music—not as embellishment, but as propulsion—adding grit, depth, and texture rarely heard in punk. Combined with a dual-fronted vocal attack and densely layered harmonies, the result hits with equal force onstage and on record.Alas! The Bomb Voyage… has been nearly four years in the making. The album was recorded by Hayden Hanson of Tunnel Vision at Tubetown Studios in San Clemente and mixed by Jim Monroe, whose credits include The Adolescents, The Dickies, Cadillac Tramps, and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. It captures Mad Tab as the band exists today: focused, ferocious, and finally documented at full intensity.Mad Tab’s relationship with Norwood Fisher grew out of his longstanding connection with Dave Tab, forged through years of touring and working throughout Southern California’s music community. As Fisher launches InnaNuttshell Reekordingz, Mad Tab stands as the label’s first artist—a deliberate choice reflecting the band’s originality, resilience, and staying power. After 20 years of chaos, setbacks, near-misses, and reinvention, Mad Tab is no longer building toward something. With “Animals” and the September 18 release of Alas! The Bomb Voyage…, the band is ready to show exactly what it has become.“Animals” is out now via InnaNuttshell Reekordingz.Mad Tab’s new album, Alas! The Bomb Voyage…, arrives September 18.
