| Pip Lewis is a British singer-songwriter based in San Diego, California. At 22 years old, she has over a decade of musical experience. Her forthcoming album, “Growing Pains,” blends introspective lyrics and ethereal soundscapes to create a truly resonant experience. “Dead Ringer,” the next single from the LP, comes out on February 21.Pip says, “”Dead Ringer” was one of the earliest songs written for my upcoming album “Growing Pains” and it has a strong 80’s influence. I first got the idea for the track when I was listening to the iconic drum intro on “Blue Monday” by New Order. I sought out some samples of the iconic Linn drum machine (used on tracks such as “Purple Rain” and “1999” by Prince and “Radio Ga Ga” by Queen) and got to work producing the demo of what became “Dead Ringer.”The song is an offbeat commentary on the line between the person and the performer. Who is Pip Lewis as a person? Who is she as a performer? Is the struggle of the person part of the allure of a performer? I had grown up watching Joy Division’s lan Curtis performances with my father. Curtis would often have epileptic seizures on stage and it struck me then that it seemed like sometimes showmanship and suffering were synonymous.
