R&B songstress Gina Thompson is back with her new single, Nobody. Known for her work with Missy Elliot and Puffy, she gives those unfamiliar with her an intro into her career.
And so Rodney Jerkins and myself did a record. And The Things You Do actually was the first single that came out on that album. However, what people don’t know is the song that people may be familiar with, featuring Missy Elliott, actually is a remix.
So that was not the original song. The original song was on the album, titled Nobody Does It Better. And once the album was completed, my A&R, God Bless His Soul, Mr. Cee, assistant A&R, who has passed, DJ Mr. Cee, knew Puffy.
And so what he wanted to do was take the record to Puffy, see how he felt about it. Of course, I was definitely down. Puffy was doing his thing at the time.
So he heard it, loved the record. Wanted a different spin on it.
She’s doing her thing. She used to be with a group called Sista. And I think she would really be hot on the record.
So Missy, when she heard the record, she was automatically on board, was so thankful for the opportunity. Then she put her spin on it, she was like, hee hee hee how and anything else. And the rest kind of went from there.
So we put the song out and instantly it was a making. Again, so very, very thankful for it. And that’s pretty much a brief synopsis of putting me on the map and how I got into the music industry.
So again, shout out to Rodney Jerkins, even with the things that are happening right now, or with the puppy situation back then. He definitely did well with the record. He did well by myself.
I’ve never had any issues. And again, shout out to Mr. C and Bruce Carbone and Rodney Jerkins again for making it happen. And thank you to all the DJs and fans that broke the record.
So I’m here today, and they’re still playing this record. I’m here today, I’m still eating all of the things you do. And so again, very thankful for everyone that has supported.
So again, that’s a brief synopsis of my introduction into the music industry.
What else can the DJs expect from you this year? Is it a project coming, is it touring, or what else can we expect?
So very thankful for the opportunity for this song to come about. A friend of mine introduced me to a songwriter and a producer, Sharnel Allen, songwriter, Crazy Figs, producer in the North Carolina area. The song actually was for a group that, actually, unfortunately, they had broken up.
So the song was free and they heard me all over the record. So it was introduced to me. I instantly gravitated towards it.
It really resonated with me. I felt it was like a really good feed off of the things you do, if you will, kind of like that vibe. So long story short, the record again will be available February 14th on all platforms and the reviews that I’ve been getting already.
So, so very thankful. The DJs that do have it have given me so much love and getting great feedback from it. So again, a video is to come as well.
And the single Nobody again will be available on all platforms come February 14th.
Okay, okay. And then do me a favor and show us your social media, Instagram, TikTok.
Absolutely, absolutely. So to be honest with you, as we know there are a lot of platforms that are out there. I will say my biggest one is IG.
So the real Gina Thompson IG. I would recommend for the most part follow me on there. TikTok is very up and still moving for me.
And I’m starting to work in those areas more, even YouTube. But I would say right now the main grab for me is IG. So it’s the real Gina Thompson.
Anything that’s coming up with me, you’ll be able to see right there on my IG page. And again, so much love has been coming across the page. I’ve been touring or doing shows here and there.
I just came back from London, actually. So much, so much going on over in London. Shout out to London.
And they just did a show over there with Ruffins, Yvette Michelle, Jay Holliday, Changing Faces. And I’ve been doing quite a few shows, actually. I’ve been working with or have worked with Pastel Mike with DJ Cassidy.
I did his show back in March 2021. He reached out to me and didn’t want me to do the live version. So I did do that last year with him, February 9th, around the same time, actually, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Then 50 Cent reached out to me and wanted me to be on his first Humor in Harmony event, which was last August. So to my knowledge, I’m going to be having another one. Hopefully, I can go out there again.
But I’m staying busy, and I’m still so very thankful for that. And anyone that do want to book me for shows, I encourage them to DM me on my IG, and my team does watch my IG messages, and we’ll be able to assist you.
So what about, tell us about this song, Nobody, like who produced it, what’s the concept of it, like it was the story that us two came together.?
Absolutely, so kind of again, like I know I love the things you do, so we know it’s that love song, Things You Do Makes Me Keep Running To You. This is like a spin-up in Nobody, Nobody, Nobody But You. You know, you’re the one that do it for me, I’m feeling you, you’re my type of guy, it’s the things that you do, and nobody does it better.
So it’s kind of like, it’s a love song, and that’s kind of like, the thing that I’m just basically kind of known for, those uppity-fund love songs, it does feature a rapper called Fanny the Body. She’s an upcoming young female rapper as well. And of course, I definitely believe in, you know, we all start from somewhere, so supporting the indie artists, you know, up-and-coming new indie artists, I’m all for that.
So the producer, his name is Krazy Figgs, who’s again out in North Carolina. And the writer is Charnell Allen. She has been doing, she has done, excuse me, she’s been on several projects.
She’s even worked with Usher. So shout out to Charnell Allen, and that was a tongue twister. Shout out to Charnell Allen, and shout out to Krazy Figgs for putting this down and wanting me to be a part of it.
And shout out to Woods as well, who connected us all. He’s my brother from another mother, I call him. So yeah, that’s pretty much the background of that.
And shout out to the songwriter producer, and the concept of it.
