Londee Wiggins Releases “Hang-In Out” Louisville, Kentucky native Londee Wiggins started Wiglon Records and is a dazzling entertainer of timeless talent, beauty and professionalism that creates her own music. Londee’s singing, songwriting, stage presence and voiceover skills have elevated the lady to her rarified status as a performer of outstanding all-around pedigree, class and versatility. Londee came to prominence as the female lead vocalist of the 12-piece band New Birth, creators of such hits as “It’s Been a Long Time,” “Wildflower,” a thrilling cover of Bobby Womack’s “I Can Understand It,” and their spellbinding rendition of Jerry Butler’s “Dream Merchant” which topped Billboard’s Soul Singles Chart in the Summer of `75. Indeed, it was Londee’s voice that graced New Birth’s very first hit – a soulful 1971 remake of the Perry Como classic “It’s Impossible” for RCA Records – which she sang as a duet with co-member Bobby Downs. This poignant crossover hit set the band up for its gold-selling albums Birth Day and It’s Been a Long Time, North American concert tours, and top-rated television appearances on Soul Train, American Bandstand, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert and Mike Douglas. As the sole female of New Birth once the band’s fortunes began to rise, she rose to the challenges of traveling and working in a group full of men, matching them in stamina, work ethic and star power while maintaining the full spectrum of her allure as a woman with her ballet training, all-natural sex appeal and the alto voice of an angel. Among the band’s most lasting and memorable images from its days performing before thousands is the sight of Londee emerging from a black egg at center stage and slowly, sensuously making her way to her microphone…mesmerizing fans of all ages. Songs on which Londee sang lead became powerful album and concert favorites, including “Do it Again,” “Patiently,” “I’d Spend My Whole Life Loving You,” “Why Did I,” “How Good it Feels,” “Forever,” the spiritually uplifting “Heaven Says,” and her show-stopping star turn on “Until it’s Time for You to Go.” Londee’s voice and music have continued to play a major role in contemporary R&B and pop music. A looped sample of her beautiful bell-like vocal refrain from “Wildflower” became a prominent hook of the chart-topping Jamie Foxx hit “Unpredictable” (from the blockbuster 2005 theatrical version of Mission: Impossible). And the groove of a song she co-penned with legendary producer Harvey Fuqua, titled “You Are What I’m All About,” was the foundation of hip -hop super group Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s gold-selling debut “Player’s Anthem” (featuring Lil’ Kim and the late Notorious B.I.G.) – just one prominent example among scores of samples of New Birth’s music in rap. Her songs have also been used in several national advertising campaigns, including one for the Jeep Compass automobile. Today, vivacious and lovely Londee Wiggins – who is also completing her Nurse Practitioner credentials – is going stronger than ever, having studied voice over with David Fennoy as well as acting at The Art School for Actors. The lady has taken excellent care of herself as a gym devotee, kick boxer and runner. She looks forward to continuing her legacy in music with soulful dance music of international appeal, sophisticated balladry, and songs of praise and thankfulness to God. |
