| BEFORE EVOLUTION cover art by Jiahao ZhangDownload HERE Today, as his first-ever headline tour draws to a close, 20-year-old up and coming artist Novulent drops his new EP, BEFORE EVOLUTION, via Capitol Records. Listen to BEFORE EVOLUTION HERE. Novulent’s gift for storytelling shines on “death wish.” On the first verse, he spins a tale of a terrifying attraction. New Zealand-based artist whatsaheart counters with a siren’s song on the second verse, drawing him in deeper and deeper. He explains, “The premise behind ‘death wish’ is a toxic relationship but very exaggerated, in order to be cinematic. A toxic relationship feels like a death wish – you feel like you’re actually dying and you’re going to be harmed by being around them. Your emotions are heightened.” After sold-out headline shows in such cities as Chicago and Los Angeles, Novulent will wrap up The Evolution Tour with a trio of Texas dates and a final New York City date. He’ll play The Secret Group in Houston tonight, TX Tea Room in his hometown of Dallas tomorrow January 25, and Mercury Lounge in New York City on February 1. Tickets are available HERE. The Missing Peace and Olive Vox are supporting him on the tour, which marks his first headline run. He made his live debut in Texas last year, opening for Violent Vira. While he initially planned to become a tattoo artist, Novulent became obsessed with creating music after seeing how everyday people were experimenting with sounds and posting their work on platforms like SoundCloud. At 17, he began creating songs in Bandlab, fusing elements of hard rock, shoegaze and Midwest emo into a sound all his own. The three-song BEFORE EVOLUTION is a bridge, giving fans who may have discovered him with his breakout track “scars” – which has amassed over 111 million streams on Spotify alone – a preview of his next era.
