The track is from VOL.3Novulent’s forthcoming album, which tells the story of a love relationship as it evolves over time. Whereas “new low,” the album’s first single, provided an up-close glimpse of a toxic relationship, “rip” looks at the possibilities new relationships hold and the pull of the past. Listen to “rip,” released by Capitol Records, HERENovulent explains, “‘rip’ is about the feeling you have after a relationship – ‘having fun,’ experimenting with different people in hopes of finding a new relationship. But in the end, you’ll come right back to your ex, no matter how toxic it is. People will go with what’s familiar rather than the unfamiliar.” Released in April, “new low” found a spot on Alternative Press’ “A-sides: 10 songs you need to hear” list. Pop Cultr also observed, “The track takes listeners on a raw journey through the emotional complexities of staying in a toxic relationship…Novulent blends hard rock, shoegaze, and emo influences seamlessly in new low, drawing inspiration from their personal experiences with heartbreak and emotional turmoil.” The 20-year-old, Texas-based artist recently wrapped up their first-ever headline tour with a show at New York City’s Mercury Lounge, which The Concert Chronicles praised as “gritty yet glistening…a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.” Novulent will perform on October 3 at Furnace Fest in Birmingham, AL. Drawing inspiration from early 2000’s films like Thirteen and All About Lily Chou-ChouNovulent’s forthcoming VOL.3 is the latest in a series of reflective albums. VOL.1 concerned two back-to-back breakups that completely shattered Novulent’s worldview on relationships. The album contained the breakout track “scars” – which has amassed over 111 million streams on Spotify alone. VOL.2 found them having a one-to-one talk with their past self and releasing the negative emotions they had held onto – a process that led to greater maturity. From VOL.2 came the smash hit “soul ties” – which currently has over 1.5 million streams globally and sits at a consistent 20k streams a week in the U.S.
