“new low” single art Download HERE Today, Novulent gave fans a first glimpse into VOL.3, their forthcoming album, with the release of lead single “new low.” The song captures the toll a toxic relationship can take on mental health. Listen to “new low,” released by Capitol Records, HERE. The 20-year-old, Texas-based artist says, “The song talks about being so desperate to be with someone that you’ve hit a new low mentally to stay with them. Peeling back their personality more and more, you see how awful they are but, in desperation and wishful thinking, you still stay with them, accepting what they are – a ‘beautiful poison.’” VOL.3, Novulent explains, is the story of a love relationship – “the highs and lows, the anger, the happiness, the good, the ugly and more.” Drawing inspiration from early 2000’s films like Thirteen and All About Lily Chou-Chou, they describe it unfolding in “coming-of-age movie fashion,” like Novulent’searlier VOL.1 and VOL.2. “Every new song leading up to the album’s release will show, piece-by-piece, the emotional journey that love can take you on,” says Novulent. “It’s never black and white, it’s always grey.” The forthcoming VOL.3 is the latest in a series of reflective albums. VOL.1 concerned two back-to-back breakups that completely shattered Novulent’s worldview on relationships. The album contained the breakout track “scars” – which has amassed over 111 million streams on Spotify alone. VOL.2 found them having a one-to-one talk with their past self and releasing the negative emotions they had held onto – a process that led to greater maturity. From VOL.2 came the smash hit “soul ties” – which currently has over 1.5 million streams globally and sits at a consistent 20k streams a week in the US. Novulent recently wrapped up their first-ever headline tour with a show at New York City’s Mercury Lounge, which The Concert Chroniclespraised as “gritty yet glistening…a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.” While they initially planned to become a tattoo artist, Novulent became obsessed with creating music after seeing how everyday people were experimenting with sounds and posting their work on platforms like SoundCloud. At 17, they began creating songs in Bandlab, fusing elements of hard rock, shoegaze and Midwest emo into a sound all their own. |
